hillsbro Posted March 3, 2016 Share Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) Local directories confirm that "J.W. Rains" (this spelling) was the householder at 79 Southey Crescent in the 1960s. Public records show that John W. Rains married Grace Heald in Sheffield in 1943, and a daughter Jean was born in 1946. There is a Wortley district (i.e. just north of Sheffield) marriage record of 1968 for a Jean Rains and a James Ridge; two daughters, Maxine and Claire, were born in Sheffield in 1969 and 1972 respectively. James Ridge sadly died just before Christmas, 2013 - see here. The electoral roll gives an S5 address for Jean. ---------- Post added 03-03-2016 at 17:38 ---------- I knew the Peace family lived on there, cant remember the No.The 1965 directory shows "W. Peace" at No 47. Here is a scan from the directory which might perhaps be of interest to Southey Crescent folk.
