sutty27
Working in Europe is not emigration, is not counted as emigration and cannot be measured. Most UK people working in Europe would not and are not regarded as emigrants. "... loosing the ability to move freely around the EU..." will cost hundreds of thousands of UK jobs dependent on free movement of labour, ideas and skills as well as hundreds of thousand more UK jobs lost in the UK as non- European companies leave so that they can do business in Europe. Despite what you think there are published figures for the countries that British people emigrate too and EU countries are on the list, but they are not the most popular destinations. ---------- Post added 06-03-2016 at 16:41 ---------- Considering they are the most economically important market who we trade with then it does matter to the average British person. Trade maters it creates jobs and raises revenue, those tend to be importnat to the average Britsih person. If you dont mind that trade being less efficient and less successful, then you should leave and hook up with other countries such as the commonwealth. Importing stuff from other EU countries doesn't create jobs here, it creates jobs there. Edited March 6, 2016 by sutty27
999tigger
You said All I have done is give you the figure of how few people will be affected, most British people that leave the UK to live and work somewhere else don't go to the EU, its about 50,000 a year with the rest going to live in parts of the world that aren't EU countries, in total about 150,000 leave each year. There are about 2.4 million people from the UK living in the EU, which is similar to the amount of people from the EU living in the UK. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/5cd640f6-9025-11e3-a776-00144feab7de.html#axzz428nSuspj It would also affect all those trips from the UK to the EU be they for business or pleasure. That would run into millions. It all adds up.
foxy lady
it would become harder to do that There are rather a lot of British passport holders and folk who have emigrated permanently to places outside the EU without any need for the open borders policy that the EU conveys. We had a holiday home in Croatia long before it became part of the EU and I can't think of much that changed since it did other than prices going up. 999tigger
Importing stuff from other EU countries doesn't create jobs here, it creates jobs there. Economic activity creates money. If you wamt to make it more difficult for EU countries to trade in the UK, then they will reply in kind by making it more difficult to trade there. You seem to specialise in making irrelevant points. We arent talking about non eu citizens.

999tigger
How?.................. Because imposition of borders makes it slower and less efficient to move around. If you have to go through passport control and have your goods cleared at each border that takes time and costs money.

Many British people invest and buy property in EU countries, France, Spain, Portugal etc, while many EU citizens come and live here 10 people to a rented household !
