IDS finally gets his ESA disability benefit cuts

Recommended Posts

I thought everybody was being transitioned onto esa and that dla was being scrapped except for oaps?

Nope that isn't fully right. There are two stages of ESA: WRAG Group (Work Related activity) and Support Group (Generally being those who cannot work).

IB (Incapacity Benefit) people have been re-assessed and either moved onto ESA or JSA if found fit to work by the governement chosen group of 'medical professionals...'

DLA is being phased out to PIP. Many of who have to go through new stress to get onto it. (Hell just look at the Disability Group on here for the horror stories)...

ESA will eventually be merged with Universal Credit.

When will those ****(insert adjective you see fit) tories finally realise that work shyness is serious disability.

ESA isn't jobseeker benefit.

(IDS is just implementing ROPS to the pesky disableds)

Not funny.

A lot of people who are unemployed and having such difficulties; budgeting, managing, shopping, paying bills, dealing with all sorts of problems, are people with mental health issues, who once upon a time would have been in mental hospitals. They are now desperately in need of the 'care in the community' they were promised, but it is sadly lacking. So is any sympathy it seems.

Typical socialist worker.... Sorry, I mean Daily Mirror spin.

"dark day for disabled people" "forced through policy"

Horse crap.

Only "disabled people" affected are those deemed fit to work but aren't working.

Those severely disabled or with life long conditions will carry on receiving DLA just like they always have.

Our elected leaders have voted and put the bill forward. A load of unelected old farts have tried to block it. Now they cant. A winner for democracy and our elected house.

People who don't like it get their say at Election time.

Those of us who agree with the cuts had to put up with 13 years of Labour's interference and inflation of such benefits, massive overspends and inflation of the public sector.

In 2015 the people voted and we are where we are. Democracy is just that.

Thank you for the typical tory apologist Im alright jack stuff the rest of you response there :)

I know, not funny at all.

There is only that much I pay in taxes, not enough for everyone.

You have to take into account that it's mirror so divide anything by half, throw out all extremes and hype and extract facts from what's left.

And that is what is left after that process:

to cut [..] ESA from £102.15 to £73.10 a week from April 2017 - equal to jobseeker's allowance - if they are deemed fit for “work-related activity”

That essentially means people who are deemed to be capable of going back to work are treated as those those on JSA who are deemed to be capable of going back to work.

Difference is you can loose JSA easy and ESA not necessarily that easy.

Now who is fit for “work-related activity” that is whole different subject.

Assessment might be piece of poo, but principle is OK.

We should be responsible for ourselves after all.

So it is matter of getting people assessed right, not cutting ESA.

I don't quite understand all the fuss being generated as according to that article; "The cuts will only affect new claimants or those who interrupt their claims for more than 12 weeks."

So will this affect those already claiming?

You have to look after number one first and foremost . Yes there are some genuine disability claimants who cannot work and deserve every penny they receive in benefits, BIT there are also a lot of people who are swinging the lead and are more than capable of working but like the easy life on disability. These people deserve to lose their disability benefits.
