theimposter
I've been reading the Peter Tuffrey book about pub landlords and I stumbled across a short piece about 'Whispers' which was the former Carwood Tavern (more or less opposite the Corner Pin on Carlise St). It had an expensive makeover and was turned in to a video jukebox bar but would appear to have not lasted long. Does anyone remember it?

It used to be the 'Carwood HOTEL', the 'Tavern' in that area was the 'Hallcar' on the Carwood estate.

I also used to go in the pub when it want to the Whispers video bar & had a few good nights in their I'm sure the landlord was called John I'm sure he was from Derby & was a night club dj

bluesbrother
I DJ'd there back in the Whispers days! It was run by John & Janet Lomas (yes, from Derby) and 'Spider', whose real name deserts me atm. I think the downfall was the "Strippers Sundays" that gave it the old school reputation. Had a good time there tho.
