mossdog
Heard recently that the Hare & Hounds pub at Stannington which has been unused for some time ,might be brought back to life! Rumor has it that a wealthy local villager has bought the whole cricket field and old pub and wants to re-develope it. This could make sense as the Robin Hood,Sportsman etc have all recently closed.Stannington supported both the Crown&Glove and the Hare&Hounds(only 100 Mtrs apart) when a lot less people lived in the village. Also the fact that a privately owned pub is able to buy beer much cheaper by buying direct means it could easily be the cheapest pub in the village to drink at! How much is true I cannot be certain, but today,24 hr high security fencing has been installed all around the old Hare & Hounds. pattricia
I would have thought new houses on the site would bring more income in !
mossdog
I would have thought new houses on the site would bring more income in !........well there's all the old cricket field to take care of that! You could build a whole estate on that site subject to PP. The last plans did not go far!

Can they all make a living with alcohol so cheap in Supermarkets !I think it's food that has taken over now,and there are 3 pubs less now in the village and Stannington is due to expand in the near future..........so anyone's guess! Stannington has suffered some dud management over the past few years, but the Crown & Glove is certainly back on it's feet!

crookedspire
While it's great that possibly the pub could reopen it would cost a lot to repair the building. The inside has been smashed up and the ceiling s are down will be interesting to see what happens.

The inside has been smashed up and the ceiling s are down will be interesting to see what happens.Well that might be all for the good!...........last time I was in a few years ago,the pub needed a complete new layout and revamp! but as long as there is a shell,it's amazing what can be done in a short space of time. It is the nearest pub to the church, for weddings and funerals........also opposite the Lomas Hall for many various functions! If it were to progress, the biggest problem would be to find the right management to run it.
