RonJeremy
Not especially no. I have too much self-respect to resort to embarrassing servility. If high earners choose to live here or do business here they know the rules. And the rules are pretty favourable in the UK. So it's pride that makes you hate them so much for educating your children? redfox
I could not give two hoots as to how much Eric earns its none of mine nor anyone else's business. I don't like his politics, but more so his relentless peddling of the central office line. Many people work very hard indeed, some Eric do not earn very much. I wouldn't fancy a 12 hour shift at McDonalds nor a night patrol on the streets with the police or driving an ambulance either and neither job puts them into the high income bracket - I suspect they work (even on Erics analysis) very hard. I pay my taxes, I don't like forking out 50% one little bit - as a consequence I can't abide those who feel its optional and worse seek to and do evade responsibility. We are very quick to moan and complain about and shop people who might be claiming benefits they might not be entitled to - not so fast when it comes to those ducking tax liability. I1L2T3
So it's pride that makes you hate them so much for educating your children? I didn't say I hated them, just that I'm not especially grateful. A progressive tax system means that nobody has to be grateful to anybody else. It's just the way that system works, and that is the system we have. ---------- Post added 14-03-2016 at 20:33 ---------- I could not give two hoots as to how much Eric earns Me neither. I'm just trying to understand the bizarre, fawning servility to people he believes are his superiors. It's not healthy.
Berberis
What kind of statement is that? There's £16bn going AWOL, of course some businesses will be involved in that. Who cares how many. It's happening. From the NAO report: Evasion when registered individuals or businesses deliberately omit, conceal or misrepresent information to reduce their tax liabilities. Evaders will typically engage with HMRC, but understate a declared source of income You did not say some, you said person B will often use illegal means. These are two very different accusations, which you now seem to be pedaling back on. Your assumption that 16bn is going awol, therefore businesses often use illegal means is claim insulting to the vast majority of business owners in the country who employ the vast majority of PAYE employees. If you drive them away by raising taxes "until the pips squeak", then you will miss them and their money. You will end up paying more tax and have worse services. You may even have to go cap in hand to the IMF. On a purely financial level, higher earners contribute a lot to society supporting the disabled and those who are "on the sick" who shouldn't be. ricgem2002
Surely you are grateful to the high earners for paying so much tax to provide you with schools, hospitals, roads and police? no that will be the pfi contracts doing that paid for by the lowly paid taxpayers
RonJeremy
no that will be the pfi contracts doing that paid for by the lowly paid taxpayers I'd love to know how that works? How does someone who is paying no net tax, subsidise something?
