Iain Duncan Smith resigns from Cabinet

Recommended Posts

IDS has undertaken reforms imposed on his department by the treasury i.e. Osborne. He is now saying the cuts are too deep and doesn't want to be part of it any more. If Cameron is trying to undermine tthen it appears to be backfiring. IDS's may be overplaying the part of the caring politician somewhat but he has clearly positioned himself on the moderate side of where Cameron and Osborne stand... and they support the stay campaign.

Let's push IDS's transparent political posturing to one side because I do not think that he's fooling many.

Anyway, I haven't suggested that Cameron is trying to undermine the Brexit campaign by making it's supporters look extreme. All I said is that the referendum's associated media spotlight is giving some of the Brexit's supporters the opportunity to allow themselves look extreme.

It has been interesting listening to some senior Tories being interviewed this lunchtime. It seems that Osbourne is on sticky ground after another disastrous Budget.

Some of them even saying he might be demoted.

As John Humphries said to him..."what do you have to do to be sacked" :hihi:

Can you imagine them going into a general election and still not having cleared the deficit despite having made cuts upon cuts upon cuts and sold off huge amounts of public assets and only being able to offer more cuts, more austerity and more tax cuts for the better off? That's not going to go down well.

Tory MP Heidi Allen is the voice of reason and on the side of IDS.

Yes, it reflects badly on Cameron and Osborne if Iain Duncan Smith is positioning himself as more caring and compassionate than the PM or his Chancellor.

Anyone who didn't know could have watched his interview on Andrew Marr this morning and actually believed him. Until you remember this is the man who was willing to go to the appeals court to force disabled people to give up their bedrooms and victims of domestic abuse to pay more for panic rooms.

Yes, let's not forget how vile they all are. And still incapable of meeting any of their targets.
