Gamston
The Walter Mitty Hunters are a group of vigilantes who are exposing Britain's fake war veterans. Should Britain follow America and have a Stolen Valor Act, which outlaws people who fake their military experiences and wear medals they have not been awarded. ? Opinions sought .................... Mossway
It's not really a problem for those of us who have served a 'grateful nation' unless the 'Walt' is using his/her alleged military service to claim any sort of benefit to which he/she is not entitled. If someone wants to claim he served in the (what could be construed as)largest military outfit the world has ever known, ie the SAS, I ,for one, can't get too excited about it. A few questions from someone who has been in his branch of the the Armed Forces can usually ascertain the Walt's veracity.

One recently in the media who was begging in the street, with a wee story of his history in the Para's (i think?) Basically making out he was a war hero. Nagel
Absolutely not. How would it benefit anyone to have a law like this? We have too many petty laws. Just expose and ridicule them.
Quik
In my experience the ones who get most excised about this spent their entire service on cold war duty getting hammered on various BAOR bases and never had anyone say boo to them let alone go full on front line sandy. Plus we already have such a law, it just never gets enforced. Why make a new one when we don't enforce the current ones?

Walkley0 Mum
The attitude to vets in the United States is hugely different to what it is here. There are many, sometimes unofficial, benefits to being a war veteran in the United States that just don't exist here, e.g. you can often see the MFE (Military Friendly Employer) logo on businesses there. So I can see why claiming an outstanding military record and the consequent vigilantes to sort out the Walter Mittys has momentum there. The government here have been making attempts to get the same sort of attitude towards ex-service personnel embedded in the national psyche but for reasons of abrogating their responsibilities towards them and the difficulties they often experience on returning to civilian life rather than any higher moral intention.
