JackK0
Hello I am trying to remember when Aldi opened on Archer Road opposite Sainsburys? And what was there before it opened ? Thanks,
Dardandec
The aldi opened in the early 90's if I remember correctly and was just waste land before that which was owned at some point by sheaf motors. There was a bill board up at one point advertising the fact it was going to be a dealership. Not sure what was there before that. fatrajah
I used to catch the 59 bus there in 1964/65 & there was nothing there; it was just level waste land at the foot of the quarry.

He used to access it down the steps which led to the train shed on Archer Road. Have we a possible date for that photo ?
mickdalewood
The quarry belonged to Pickford Holland which is where sainsbury's is now. The entrance was on the corner of archer road just before the bridge. The petrol station was an Esso station. I can only go back to the late 60's though I used to go with my mates to blow chopper bike tyer's up and a pals mum worked there.
