There will be advance warning notices in place on roads that will be closed but last year a number of cars still had to be removed from the course.

Please play your part in contributing to runner safety by not parking on a road that'll be closed on the day. Remember that hundreds of runners will be raising funds for charities and that the race is a great showcase for Sheffield.

they should be run in parks not on main roads ,what about the emergency services , and doctors care nurses visiting elderly how do they go on, glad its not here next year

How do you think they cope when they deal with the dozens of other road closures each year?

Don't be so dramatic. Most of the road are closed for 5 hours at most for ONE DAY!

Its a pity we dont have a big enough stadium where they could complete circuits equalling the total miles for the half marathon. No danger to runners, no problems for emergency services and no road closures.

Its not as simple as that.

Last year over 6000 people took part in the half marathon.

Have you any idea the chaos that would ensue trying to get over 6000 people completing circuit laps around a running track.

I see your point. I had no idea that many took part.

Sheffield folk are a rum lot

"Look, there's a big event in Leeds, why not in Sheffield, I blame the council, they don't want anything that will put Sheffield on the map, backward thinking loonies"

"Oh No! There's an event on in Sheffield. I DON'T be-LIEEEve it!! Sheffield can't cope with hosting events, why can't they do it somewhere else like Leeds"

Or in the case of the Great Yorkshire Run, that has been held in Sheffield for the last 9 years, the 10th anniversary celebration run (and presumably future such runs) will be in Harrogate. Not a great celebration of Sheffield's drawing power.

At least the council helped to rescue the Sheffield Half Marathon after the sad situation that occurred 2 years ago. The run up to Ringinglow and back is a much more challenging course, but a much better advertisement for the country side of Sheffield for visitors.
