Michaeldyn
Well yes it does . It looks like exactly that (except that the government takes their cut)because that's what the estimate said which your uncle (or someone on his behalf according to your quote) signed in advance. His age is completely irrelevant. Two workers for 5 days plus transport, cleaning materials etc plus cost of disposal. Skips cost a lot of money to hire for example. We also just don't know how filthy the house was but the line about vermin and insects suggests that it must have been pretty bad. The only cause for complaint would be if they hadn't done the jobs listed and if you can show that, you'd have a good case to ask them to come back to put that right. Specialist worker demand high wages, there is a few middle man aswell. just consider you get away lightly. as they didn't need other special team to sort out vermins and bugs
runningman1
I think it is pretty cheap. You are way wide of the mark if you are calling it just cleaning. You have had to have a visit from a gas safe engineer, hazardous waste removed (the poo on the bathroom walls) and a tree cut into shape. Then you have had the kitchen gutted and multiple carpets and underlay removed. Then we have the removal and disposal of various kitchen appliances. How on earth could you think this would come to 1500 tops?

You could try to find a charity or welfare fund (eg if he had a profession) who might pay something towards it for him It's the same with removals, the punter can be relied on to underestimate the number of van loads needed. In this case the OP might want to see if Social Services will pay some of the cost because if it helps the old fella stay at home for longer it will save them money. £3200 doesn't get you many weeks in a care home. Even if he has, should all people with such a diagnosis be able to agree to pay money for a huge amount of manual work and then just refuse to pay when it is completed?
