Tata Steel to sell UK all assets

Recommended Posts

over the years the Government as let in cheap steel, cheap coal and the price was the decimation of our manufacturing industry, and the EU regs closed down our deep sea fishing industry, but it seems on the bright side we make good sandwiches that we export to the EU.

Well at least Corbyn and all the Union windbags have been down to Port Talbot to meet with many of the people working there. What of the Business Secretary Sajid Javid? Any criticism of him?

While there were crisis talks happening in Port Talbot, and lobbying members of the Tata group in Mumbai; Javid, a former high level banker, has been on a family trip to Australia:

But has Corbyn achieved anything other than appearing on TV making statements about things other folk should do that are not actually allowed under EU rules. If only hot air were the same as achievements.

He's leader of the Opposition, with regards to Tata he hasn't got the power like Javid has.

It's not much to expect the Business Secretary go to crisis talks in Mumbai and do his job, which he is handsomely paid for, to do the best he can for the 40,000 steel workers in England and Wales; rather than fanny about in Australia.

foxy lady,

I think you could phrase your post a little more subtly than that. It's not very nice to call someone a liar. Just saying that's all.

Over the years labour has been brilliant at one thing, and that is throwing taxpayers money down the toilet. Are you wanting the conservatives to do the same ?

What I'm wanting is Javid to do his job - is that too much to ask?

We cannot compete with China with price, and it would futile to do so. We need to focus our production on quality and specialisation. We need to get to a point where industry at home an abroad would rather pay more to buy our steel than go to China and pay less.

I'd welcome an intervention by the government in the way of an investment to change the strategic focus of the steel industry. If their going to write a blank cheque to keep things running as they currently are, then I'm afraid that it would be a waste of all of our money.
