drolnhoj
Could somebody confirm if GKR is GO-KAN-RYU as they have just started up at a local school and we were thinking of enrolling out kids there. They were recruiting by knocking on doors.
Cyclone
almost certainly is the same, i've never heard of any other clubs/styles or associations that tout for business in that way. Dave - I don't disagree that GKR are bad for MA in general. Just the 'if you disagree you know where to find me' comments.
Davemantis
Sounds like the same people but im not 100% We had people up Newcastle going under that name and not by GKR One of there students came to us as she had her arm broken and needed help on taking them to court. She got a good pay out that day & got us all a drink.

Davemantis
rrrr ok So how can they be stopped???????????? Sometimes the more physical approach is better. But is that not just making us the same???? and putting MA in a bad light??????
Davemantis
ShotoKarate He was showing the class how to throw someone so it would brake there arm. She didn’t think he would actually do it.

Proof that it works????? Or proof that the instructor didn't know what he was doing!!!!!!!
drolnhoj
Thanks for those who confirmed that GKR and GO-KAN-RYU are probably the same. My partner (who is experienced in ju-jitsu) actually took the kids to watch a session and she was very unimpressed with the trainer and how he was teaching. I am pleased, now that I have seen this thread, that the kids did not want to join so we havn't wasted any money (it seemed quite expensive). Cyclone
Proof that it works????? Or proof that the instructor didn't know what he was doing!!!!!!! most things work against a compliant uke, all it proved was a lack of control and a lack of safety conscious training.
