samssong
It has been announced that this Tory Government have decided to spend nine million pounds of our money on a brochure to say why we should stay in the EU. Every household will recieve these through the post. This is a blatant misuse of our funds unless of course they decide to grant the same amount to the campaign to leave this blooody so called Union. I agree, it sucks. It was already agreed that tax money would fund one leaflet each for the in and out campaigns. This one is in addition to that agreement because Cameron thinks its important that he gets his message across first.
ECCOnoob
The 14 page document, to be sent to 27 million homes, is designed to respond to public demand for more details about the EU referendum by setting out the facts behind the government's position. Opinion polls suggested that 85% of people wanted the government to provide more information We demanded it. They are providing it. The elected majority government's position is that they want to stay in so now they are giving us the facts we screamed for. The two campaign groups (WHICH ARE NOT THE GOVERNMENT) will be given public money for their own campaigns out or in later on. Just think of it as public information. This is no different. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-35980571

"They said internal opinion polls suggested that 85% of people wanted the government to provide more information so they could make an informed decision on 23 June." What's an internal opinion poll? Funky_Gibbon
This is a blatant misuse of our funds I don't think it is. The Government have an official position of remaining within the EU (regardless of the idiocy of letting ministers campaign against their own policy) therefore they can use the resources of Government to support that position whether you like your taxes being spent on it or not. ---------- Post added 06-04-2016 at 18:58 ---------- What's an internal opinion poll? It's a private poll commissioned by one party/campaign/side from an independent polling company to ask specific questions, the results of which are only available to the people who commissioned it. Political parties use them all the time. Edited April 6, 2016 by Funky_Gibbon

That's like say the government in power have an official policy on who should be in power after the next election, so have the right to spend government money convincing us to vote for them. ---------- Post added 06-04-2016 at 19:00 ---------- It's a private poll commissioned by one party/campaign/side from an independent polling company to ask specific questions, the results of which are only available to the people who commissioned it. sutty27
Is it this booklet from the EU government in fact? - http://ec.europa.eu/unitedkingdom/pdf/the_eu_for_me_web.pdf It contains this little snippet. Since 2005, a European agency, FRONTEX, has been coordinating cooperation between the member states on the management of external borders. Based in Warsaw, it helps train border guards, exchanges intelligence between countries, analyses threats of illegal immigration and helps arrange the return of illegal immigrants. Recent events demonstrate that this is a load of rubbish.
