natonstan
I've been doing some family history research and I managed to get a hold of these old maps/images through my granddad, figured some people may find them useful: Map of Hackenthorpe: http://imgur.com/qFkxEV7 Hackenthorpe School: http://imgur.com/Qjp0av8 Sheffield Road following the new housing development (Early 2000s): http://imgur.com/EnZ2hRS
katerina
Thanks for those. I used to live next to Well Lane. Sad to see how the old village has gone. I remember the pearl button factory.

handypandy
I remember the pearl button factory. Its still there, although I'm not sure what they make these days. A short while ago, we were working on the house next door (on Pritchard Pl). I had no idea what the place was at the time but was intrigued by the (apparently discarded) oil drums full of sea shells that were there. . katerina
Thanks. Can't believe all the character changed from woods and farms etc. I still have two of the discarded shells from outside the factory. They make nice soap dishes and they are shiny inside with different colours. They are over fifty years old:)

I think you have confused it with alan howards which is round the corner and deals in hairdressing supplies
