El Cid
Why would you want it in a 12 year old's name then? What were they going to do with it? Could you set up a offshore account where they have different laws
Bob Arctor
Hi everyone. I need your help with something. I want to give my car to my daughter. Shes only 12 but I still want to do it. Am I allowed? Is 12 old enough to own a car? Thanks You do know that Registered Keeper is not the same as owner?
tzijlstra
I would find it very odd if she couldn't own it legally. I would contact the DVLA to ask, but owning a car is not the same as being the driver. A friend of mine inherited his grandad's five series BMW when he was 14. It was stored in the garage until he was legally allowed to drive it (but we did have some trips on the drive ) this was in the Netherlands, but as far as I know it was never an issue. This was 23 years ago and he still owns it by the way!

smithy266
You cannot blame a 12 year old if you get booked for speeding!
Shogun
You can register a vehicle in who's or what name you want. it can cause some problems with some insurance companies as some say they won't insure somone else's vehicle, just remember that the person or name is responsible for any tickets or parking fines that come from it,just fill the log book in with what ever name you want and send it to DVLA....another thing is if the car is on finance you might get some problems as they will think you have sold the car without paying it off... geared
You'll probably find it's a loophole thats been closed. Otherwise people would register their car in their baby's name, rack up a ton of speeding tickets and such and then get off scot free because you can't prosecute a one year old. Cyclone
I don't see why a child couldn't own a vehicle, they can obviously own other things and there's nothing special about a thing being a car.

jackanne
Most insurance companies will only insure the registered keeper.
