Berberis
You can register a vehicle in who's or what name you want. it can cause some problems with some insurance companies as some say they won't insure somone else's vehicle, just remember that the person or name is responsible for any tickets or parking fines that come from it,just fill the log book in with what ever name you want and send it to DVLA....another thing is if the car is on finance you might get some problems as they will think you have sold the car without paying it off... If this was true, you would have difficulty insuring a leased vehicle. Im with Tescos Insurance and they insure my leased vehicle.
bkcin
Most insurance companies will only insure the registered keeper. I'm the registered keeper of a couple of cars but not the person insured to drive one them and we've used lots of different insurance companies and never had an issue with this... Cyclone
Most insurance companies will only insure the registered keeper. http://www.money.co.uk/car-insurance/how-to-insure-yourself-to-drive-someone-elses-car.htm Some insurers will only offer you cover as the main driver if you are also the registered keeper of the car. However many will insure you, so shop around and check the policy documents before you apply.
foxy lady
A child cannot sign a legal document, this includes a V5C. So no. There is nothing to say that a vehicle cannot be owned by someone under 16. I owned several cars from the age of about 14. I raced some of them. Indeed 15 year old Jamie Chadwick was racing a 6 litre Aston Martin and won her class in British GT Championship in 2015 after racing several years with Ginettas. Not sure what that has to do with owning a road car...
Cyclone
Not sure what that has to do with owning a road car... Is there any reason to think that there are some special laws restricting who can own a car and/or that the law about ownership distinguishes in any way between 'car', 'race car' and 'road car'? Does a track car have to be "owned" by anyone ie does it need a V5 to name a keeper..should keep dvla busy with engine number swaps etc..
Cyclone
Ownership and who the car is registered to are two different things. Although I notice that the OP confused them, the title says "register" and the 1st post says "own".

No but martin6 may well have something. There would be no need to have a specific law to cover cars as their ownership would be covered in the requirement for an adult to sign a legal document. As there is no option for a co-signature on the V5C vehicle registration certificate, I can't see how a child could own one.

Although I notice that the OP confused them, the title says "register" and the 1st post says "own". I didnt mistake the two. My op was just a quick post with a bit of detail. I sort of got people would know what i mean and when somjeone on page 1 didnt I did explain i knew the difference. Thinking about I may amend my op just to make sure Im making myself clear Cheers
