fatrajah
I remember there being a large soot-blackened building. It was built in a sort of mock-tudor or mock-stuart style. There is a reference to the building on Sheffield History Forum in the "Sheffield Places-Now Gone" category. According to their forum it was called "The Farm". "The Farm" was the residence of the Duke of Norfolk. There are several pictures of The Farm on picture Sheffield: http://www.picturesheffield.com
