Best engine oil for diesel

Recommended Posts

Don't take this the wrong way but whatever the manufacturer recommends. If you go to Miller Oils site it has a lookup feature. There's more to picking oil than just viscosity. For example - cars with DPFs and such need low ash oils or the DPF blocks more quickly than it should.

Go to "Home Bargains",they sell a 4.5 litre bottle of semi synthetic oil for petrol or diesel for £9.99.They also do fully synthetic for around £15 .(Gulf or Viscos brand). Why pay more you're only paying for a name?

Because at that price it's crap oil and will give you no end of problems in a modern engine.

I might need some soon, might just do that, never had a problem with cheap oil.

Load of rubbish.Manufacturers try to blind you with science by claiming their oil is "liquid engineering" or a modern high performance oil for todays high performance engines.Vehicles rarely top much over 70mph so why is a high performance oil needed? They would probably run quite safely on cooking oil.I have often wondered what oil garages use when they service a car,a lot of owners will have no idea what oil is in their car.

High speed running is the least demanding situation for an engine. You are arguing from a position of ignorance.

put a regular oil in a DPF engine and you have a £1500 DPF bill when it blocks. Put a cheap oil in an engine and try the 10,000 mile interval rather than the needed 3,000 mile and it's going to trash the engine.
