Food in the 40s and 50s

Recommended Posts

Can you still get horse meat in South Yorks the cleanest meat known to man .

The last shop to sell it around here was on Hereford Street I think!

What is meant by cleanest when referring to meat?

One food I hated was brawn, yuk, you got pig hairs and alsorts of things in that.

There was a horsemeat butcher's shop just outside Leeds market still going strong well into the 80s.

There used to be a place on Spital Hill (1950's) that sold horse meat ( later Colley's tripe shop) but when was that practice banned,- and they can eat what they like in Leeds !
