Last year I went to Thomson to book a Thomson holiday after seeing it on their website, it was about £30 dearer in the shop even though it was their own holiday they were selling, ridiculous.

And why is that ridiculous? The person who you are sat in front of needs their wages paying. The premises rent needs paying, as does the business rates, electric, gas, water, broadband bill etc....

The ridiculous thing is that you could refuse to pay the extra £30 in the shop, and then walk out of the shop and book a holiday with another company. So then Thompson could have lost your business over £30.

Assuming you could find the holiday £30 cheaper in another shop, of course.

Things being slightly cheaper online is nothing new. Welcome to the year 2016.

I've managed to understand advanced concepts like things being cheaper online, but thanks anyway. The principle I'm struggling to come to terms with is a business that's happy to turn away a purchase worth hundreds of pounds, if not more, over a measly £30.

As said, surely that depends. If Thomson Online are selling it for £1000, Thomson shop is selling it for £1030 and the Thomas Cook shop (as an example) is selling it for £1050, going to the latter and buying it is merely cutting your nose off to spite one's face....
