Cyclone
Except all the evidence shows that it reduces consumption and harm. But hey ho, you just keep lying. What is it, a moral crusade or something? ---------- Post added 26-05-2016 at 21:00 ---------- And it would cause more harm if it was legal, alcohol and tobacco being good examples, both legal and it both cause more harm than illegal drugs, the reason is simple when you legalise it, consumption will rise. Not true, demonstrably so.

What is it, a moral crusade or something? ---------- Post added 26-05-2016 at 21:00 ---------- Not true, demonstrably so. No it doesn't the evidence shows the opposite. Although popular opinion believes that Prohibition failed, it succeeded in cutting overall alcohol consumption in half during the 1920s, and consumption remained below pre-Prohibition levels until the 1940s. Illegal sales are not officially reported or measured, but there are indirect estimates using alcohol related deaths and cirrhosis, a liver disease specifically tied to ongoing alcohol consumption. Scholars estimate that consumption dropped to a low of about 60% of pre-prohibition levels around 1925, rising to almost 80% before the law was officially repealed. After the prohibition was implemented, alcohol continued to be consumed. However, how much compared to pre-Prohibition levels remains unclear. Studies examining the rates of cirrhosis deaths as a proxy for alcohol consumption estimated a decrease in consumption of 10–20%. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States
Cyclone
The "evidence" you're relying on is approaching a century old. You realise that more modern evidence, of things other than alcohol is available...

You realise that more modern evidence, of things other than alcohol is available... You haven't relied on any, you just keep saying the same things and I keep proving you wrong. Do you actually believe that alcohol consumption would rise if it was banned? Banning it would lower consumption and the harm it causes, banning legal highs will lower consumption and the harm they cause, banning guns decreases the number of guns and the harm they cause, banning speeding reduces the number of people speeding and that harm it cause. Banning sugar would lower consumption and the harm it cause. Can you name a single thing that became more popular after banning it?

sutty27
Porn and prostitution? Porn isn't illegal, but if it was it would be significantly more difficult to access so consumption would fall. El Cid
Can you name a single thing that became more popular after banning it? But the issue with things being banned, is the the users and dealers become prison bait, and they pay no taxes. The users and dealers cost the state money, the prison service, police force and NHS. Those poor police who have to tackle it say the problem is getting worse. The EU has methods to assist with that. Oh...wrong thread for the EU! All sorts of porn have recently been made illegal without considering the previous bans that did nothing to stop its production and dissemination. Prostitution is illegal unless it is one person working on their own. It remains illegal to engage the services of a prostitute.
