glennpickard
Sweetdexter points out the "Underground railway" between the US and Canada. I have a couple of books on it. No trains or tracks involved. It was a brave and courageous African American woman named Harriet Tubman who, at the risk of death, spirited escaped slaves away from Maryland & slave states to the north. Hence "Underground." All travel was by foot, sometimes horse & cart, sometimes small boats, "A train of transport." When she got her charges to the free state of New York, she was concerned that slavers, wanting rewards posted in/around NY, could recapture and send the slaves back south. So she often carried on up to Canada where she knew they would be free. A great history story, a triumph of good over evil !
