Do 'non jobs' exist?

Recommended Posts

Are people capable of not smoking death sticks and filling their lungs with tar...

Are people capable of managing their diet to stop becoming obsease and developing chronic diabeties....

Are people capable on maintaining their alcohol intake to moderate and sensible levels....

.....without the need for government encouragement, guidance or (in some cases) direct intervention??

The streets are messy everywhere I walk and drive, glass, litter, uneven service, potholes, overhanging branches, long grass and weeds all make the place look unsightly as well as dangerous.

So, simply get out of your house with a dustpan and brush, a pair of loppers and a strimmer.

You could have it cleared up in no time.

Why? So the council can spend their money on a nonjob?

No. Because "Sutty" thought that was the solution to a Walking Coordinator.

I just thought that if that was so easy, then a bit of light gardening and rubbish collection would be just as simple. A bit like being a Librarian, anyone can do it, in their spare time.

Who needs libraries nowadays? Isn't the internet the biggest library that has ever existed?

People without the internet might need one.

Sheffield University have just built a huge one, so that might tell you a bit about their importance.

I don't think that Oxford have plans to close the Bodleian anytime soon.

So that is just porn star impersonators that think that they aren't important.

I'm convinced.

I pay close to £2K in council tax and thousands in other tax's, do you not think that gives me the right to complain about how it is spent, or is it only the left that have the right to complain when they aren't given enough of my money to do very little.

No one 'needs' a library; but they are a positive thing to many, and society.

But cleaner streets and smoother roads would benefit even more people.

I suppose 'non-jobs' are referred to today as waste, but councils who create the non-jobs are tasked with reducing the waste. Most of which is in management. When management is asked to cut waste they look to anywhere except them to make the saving, thus services are cut instead of getting rid of the real problem.

I worked in the public sector for a time and there were non-jobs or people who did nothing all day every day and got paid a great deal.

The same thing happens in the private sector as well

It's usually the way - those who do the physically tiring and boring jobs tend to get the lowest pay, whereas those whose work brings variety and interest are usually well paid. They are at our place anyhow

Something else I disagree with, education should be available to all but it should be a parents responsibility, not the councils to make sure children attend.

It's not the council's duty to ensure children attend school, it's the council's duty to ensure childern receive an education. How they receive that education, be it by attending school, having a private tutor, or home schooling, is entirely the decision of the parent(s). As long as the child is receiving an education, by whatever means, that is what the council's legal duty is.
