jennyfogg
Hello I've started doing a family tree on my great grandads side and I've managed to find out that John nicholson who died in 1932 was sufc secretary. I know he's berried in darnall cemetry and I have been looking for the grave however I can't find it, so I am presuming he is one of many that no longer have a grave stone, I wounded if anybody knows where the grave is or if anybody knows what was said on the grave which I would like to know. Thank you Jennifer

I've found that his wife is in there his infant son and which I presume is his sister thank you so much. I hope there is a grave stone there. Daven
Download a map of the cemetery before you go. Don't rely on there being a gravestone - many families couldn't afford them. You may have to pace out the graves to estimate where it is. Good luck.
Moirahyde
Hi Jennifer, In the Sheffield Independent newpaper dated 25th April, 1932, the death of your great grandad John Nicholson made headline news. On the front page is a lengthy report plus a picture. The report starts: "Football throughout the Country has suffered a severe loss by the tragic death on Saturday, of Mr John Nicholson, secretary of the Sheffield United Football Club, who was knocked down and killed by a motor lorry outside the L.M.S. Station." On page 11 of the same newspaper there are many tributes to him. He was obviously a very well respected person. You should be able to get copies from the Central Library in Sheffield. Sheffield Independent, 16 March 1926. Mr John Nicholson, secretary of the Sheffield United Cricket and Football Club Ltd., yesterday confirmed the statement that he is to remain in his present position at Bramall Lane. He has definately declined the handsome offer made to him by the Manchester City club and decided to stay in Sheffield. There are other articles at different dates. Regards, Moira.
