Glass in the blue bin??

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Does anyone know if it's allowed to put sheet glass (Greenhouse) in to the blue bin? I know bottles are OK but this is a couple of broken panes..

Cheers, Biggsy :)

No it doesn't go in the blue box, and if you take it to dump it site it goes in building waste not glass waste.

Correct. Window glass is a different material and melts at a much higher temperature than bottle glass. It won't go through bottle recycling machines and has to be sorted before bottles can be reprocessed.

Greenhouse plane sheet glass is going to be soda lime glass which is exactly the same as bottles and jars. They will have to take it out though as it could be any one of many different "other" glasses which will cause problems, so even though you could recycle it, you will have to just put it in regular waste, ideally wrapped in carboard or similar.

Thanks everyone!

It's the old low quality greenhouse glass that seems to be different thickness and has small bubbles in it!!

I'll put it in a cardboard box and take it to the dump!
