Cyclone
Hmmm, if you have no choice but leaving it outside then I'd recommend getting a 2nd hand beater from ebay or gumtree. Something that you don't care about very much and that isn't attractive to thieves. Since the bike theft (which was a few years ago now) I've been lucky enough to work in offices with secure parking and/or where bikes come into the office. Currently my bike is leaning on the shelves in the corner with a few others as the car park here (NCP) is known for having bikes stolen from it. Save the good bike for weekends. jepoyic
True true, I do have this really old raleigh ogre that I use. It's been in storage since 2008 given by a really nice neighbour of mine. Been there for 3 years, my brother resurrected it from the dead. Gave it new tires and chains, and been using it ever since. Someone sent me a message here in this forum quite a long time ago that they're selling a carrera subway 2 for just 50. I asked for pictures but they never replied. Acorn
If you bought one of these Kryptonite locks plus a chain of the same make and then follow their lock up guide then you may be able to claim the cost of the bike back should some thieving scum manage to take it. crazyhorse
The cycle hub at Sheffield station provides fairly secure parking (although you need to spend £10 on a fob and watch out for tailgaters) Best advice is to use an old-ish road bike around town and keep the good one in the house for weekends. WalkleyIan
I use the station cyclehub in the evening but still make sure its got a good mini D lock on it and both wheels have anti-theft skewers fitted. If you're lucky you can find one of the lockers at the University is free. The bike Hub down near the interval bar is suppopsed to be built soon
Isabelle
My partner has just had his bike stolen, he doesn't think there is any point reporting it to the police
Cyclone
My partner has just had his bike stolen, he doesn't think there is any point reporting it to the police If you want to claim on insurance then you need to report it. And why wouldn't you, there is a small chance you might get it back, but if you don't report it then there is no chance at all.

Absolutely gutted, I have been looking on all the bikes for sale platforms for it, I don't know what else to do. I'm guessing the thieves will lay low for a while though, before attempting to sell it.
Cyclone
I'm afraid that I never saw a sign of mine after it went, and the police told me after about 2 months that they were closing the case because they have no leads (even though they had the theft on CCTV, the quality was too poor). scargill
Just a thought, are there any manned cycle stores in central Sheffield where bike can be parked during the day for a small fee?
