Is it possible to be homophobic if one is gay as well? It's getting complicated. Wouldn't this be self loathing?

Yes, to nick and expand from my previous post ...

It might have been a homophobic terrorist cry for help attack by a homophobic self-loathing tortured homosexual mentally ill Muslim American.

If the murderer had been inspired by Donald Trump to slaughter Mexicans it would have been a Trump inspired massacre and there would be widespread calls for Trump to be called to account for feeding the fire that caused a mass murder.

The murderer was inspired by Islam and they are Islam inspired murders. The silence about Islam is deafening.

well islam is splintered and there are little off-shoot sects like the Salafists which cause a lot of trouble with their backwards interpretation of islam.

bit like Christianity really, its has its nutty little sects too.

The silence isn't deafening on Sheffield Forum, or with regards to previous atrocities, there has been much written about Muslims, their faith, culture etc and a lot of it not very nice. If that's the kind of thing you want to read, there's loads of internet hate forums that are racist inspired.

I think what a lot of people are speculating about on here is how much did this man's sexuality, and crucially his own response to it, play a part in the massacre.

There's a thing called "internalised homophobia" which seems to be the case with the gay, muslim terrorist. So the incident can be labelled a internalised homophobic terrorist attack..:suspect:

Yes internalised homophobia exists, and, is said to be one of the chief reasons why poor mental health of LGBT community is so poor.

Before they do that they have to acknowledge Islam as reason for homophobia and that this murderer was a Muslim. How he might have dealt with Islamic homophobia is open to interpretation but we don't need to need look any further than Islam to see where his claimed homophobia would have come from.

As well as struggling to deal with other aspects of human behaviour and society, most of the major faiths have problems around sexuality. How they should deal with it is up for discussion, but sweeping it under carpet isn't healthy or constructive.

Hopefully the atrocity will spark a discussion amongst religions & other institutions about how they will move forward and deal with it. Blaming religion isn't always helpful, as it takes away personal responsibility.

There are some openly gay Imams such as this man in America, http://abcnews.go.com/US/openly-gay-imam-reacts-sundays-shooting-orlando/story?id=39821872 who I think could be a positive influence in the coming weeks and months

52% of British Muslims want homosexuality to be illegal. That means going to jail for being gay, not just unable to get married, or have basic equal rights. That is in a so called moderate community. Penalties range from jail to beatings to execution by being thrown off a building. You have to accept that Islam is homophobic to the core.

How many Catholics might say the same? What 'they' might want does not mean they disregard the rule of UK law.

Penalties in the UK do not amount to anything because it is legal here. As is freedom of religion. Since 1967 gay sex has been legal in the UK. Perhaps you missed the post about it never being illegal in Turkey, which was created in 1923.
