foxy lady
I don't think that they'll be a split and I'm not even sure if there will even be a leadership election this year when the odds are that if there is, Corbyn will win it if he doesn't resign, but stands. That is precisely the point. Corbyn relected as leader of a party where 178 of his MPs passed a motion of no confidence in him. Where do they go? Do you think they will kiss and make up? In such a situation Corbyn would be looking to deselect every last one of them at the earliest opportunity. Certainly before the next election. So their options are to wait for the chop or go OWAL. blake
they might put the knife into a few but it's not possible to deselect 75% of the PLP. How can they defend robbing voters of the individuals they voted for in the general election last year, some of whom have been incumbents for years and years and with good constituency records. Labour MP's are on a hiding to nothing with Corbyn in charge. Half of them will lose their seats in 2020 anyway if he keeps his job and they know it. They won't, but should they break away and form a new faction that won't improve their chances either. They have no choice really but to try to get rid of Corbyn. It is easy to to deselect the sitting MP. You simply fill the local branch of the party with the new militia and vote them out. We have only seen the tip of the iceberg of devastation that Corbyn will inflict on the Labour Party. I doubt the deselected MPs will go quietly. I wonder whether they will stand as independents or get organised into a breakaway party long before the 2020 election.

Over in my neck of the woods the locals are happy to get rid of the long standing Labour MPs who've done a sterling job for years locally, all because the MP signed the no-confidence document. Angela Eagle has been an MP since 1992, yet the Wallasey locals are one step short of lynching her for taking on Corbyn, and been subject to homophobic abuse (what the hell does her sexual persuasion have to do with it?). Even her own branch is against her: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/angela-eagle-s-constituency-branch-issues-statement-supporting-jeremy-corbyn-as-labour-leader-a7124241.html Like I said before, these people have never worked with Corbyn, have no experience of what he's like or what kind of leader he is because all they have to base their opinion on is what they've seen in the media. Incredible you just dont get that to win an election and to implement policies you have to win the majority of the country. This is why the cons are delighted to have him in as he guarantees they will win the next election, just like Milliband did. So obvious.

Can you provide any proof that Corbyn won it for Khan? Fact is, Khan was a better choice than the Tory oik Goldsmith, who nobody could stand. If Boris had stood again he'd have romped home. Khan won it off the back of Corbyn, just my opinion, and with all due respect neither of us can prove it one way or the other You forget to mention that in this stage in the political cycle an opposition would be doing much better.
