The consequence thread (Brexit)

Recommended Posts

You obviously don't work with EU standards. British Standards are derived from European ones, especially in engineering. It is standards like the Euronorms that form the foundations where other more bespoke standards are derived from. So if you think we are setting the benchmark, then you are either naive, misinformed or stupid.

Again you are talking nonsense with regards to so called "Chinese rubbish" being imported. You have no experiene in this area with comments like that. For anything to be sold within the EU (including the UK), it needs to be CE marked. Anything that is CE marked needs to conform with all relevant EU safety legislation for a given product type.

But British Standards play a key part in creating and formulating these European standards. It isn't a case of British Standards OR European Standards, or of British Standards being based on European ones. They are created in parallel, as one and the same.

Britain plays its part in creating European Directives, also.

That ******* page took an age to load, then when it did there was an intensely irritating jerky lag when trying to scroll down. So screw it, I didn't read it.

Not our problem that you can't afford decent internet or a computer.

Your head is in the sand Alan.

Big businesses are planning to go. No empty threats this time. I work for a company that specialises in an area of IT and I'm in London for a day or two practically every week now planning aspects of this out for client companies. Paris and Dublin are looking like favourable destinations.

Why weren't they in mainland Europe in the first place? why did they choose to locate themselves in non Eurozone, non schengen Britain?? don't give me this nonsense about Britain being a "gateway" into Europe because that's just cobblers, big non European companies are quite capable dealing directly with the EU if they wanted to without having to go through Britain to do it!

Nonsense?

The reason they located here (and especially so in the work I'm doing at the moment) is because businesses have to adhere to data protection law. It is easier to locate in a centre that adheres to EU law because that opens up a market of 500 million customers. Schengen has nothing to do with that. Nor does the Eurozone. In fact it is likely that the UK will still have to adhere to the (soon to be beefed up) EU laws but there is a nervousness in the industry around Brexit. The deals being offered by Paris and Dublin based operators are superb. They are actively trying to pull the business away from the UK already.

Bitter sweet for me. I want to remain but who is going to give up the work trips to Paris and Dublin?

Sorry if I've misunderstood what you've put but I didn't notice a reason given in your post as to why these companies were not in Dublin or Paris in the first place rather than in Britain.
