The consequence thread (Brexit)

Recommended Posts

I think the rules for the referendum should have required a much higher balance than 50+ to enact a leave.

On the logic that you can leave at any point, but once you've left you can't rejoin.

Ah, but you can, Article 50(5) TFEU says so :)

5. If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.

Let's have a look:

Any European State which respects the values referred to in Article 2 and is committed to promoting them may apply to become a member of the Union. The European Parliament and national Parliaments shall be notified of this application. The applicant State shall address its application to the Council, which shall act unanimously after consulting the Commission and after receiving the assent of the European Parliament, which shall act by an absolute majority of its component members. The conditions of admission and the adjustments to the Treaties on which the Union is founded, which such admission entails, shall be the subject of an agreement between the Member States and the applicant State. This agreement shall be submitted for ratification by all the contracting States in accordance with their respective constitutional requirements. The conditions of eligibility agreed upon by the European Council shall be taken into account.
Expected and predicted consequences of rejoining after triggering Article 50 in view of the bit in bold?

No more or further veto(s) than those other Member States enjoy at the time of the application to rejoin, adoption of the €, commitment to further integration, sign up to Schengen, no British 'border/quota' exceptions. For starters.

The UK would lose at least as much by rejoining after triggering article 50, as it stands to lose through triggering Article 50 and negotiating - if not more. So a pointless course of action. IMHO.

As expected my Indian suppliers have whacked up prices, 15% higher than they were in May (more than I thought). Checked around and its a par figure. All three pointed (rightly) to exchange rates for the bulk of the rise.

I'm talking to the Germans next week and see what they say.

Wait, Alan? You did realise that most of the stuff in this country is imported, right? :|

Tinfoil hat referred specifically to his Indian suppliers. I'm just intreaged (nosey:P) as to what he has supplied from India.

Specialist equipment for my business.

That's as much as you're getting though. I'm not blabbing what I get from who or why for the world to see I'm afraid.
