The consequence thread (Brexit)

I thought the UK led the way in climate change, and reducing CO2?

It's a lot more complicated than that. Even if you agree internationally on targets for reducing CO2, that's very different from being told what strategy to employ in doing so.

The UK has announced an ambitious new carbon target for the early 2030s, allaying fears that the climate goal would be a casualty of the EU referendum.

Amber Rudd accepted the advice of the government’s statutory climate advisers, setting a target on Thursday of reducing carbon emissions 57% by 2030 on 1990 levels.

I refer you to my previous reply as it still applies.

This isn't really the place for this discussion.

The CAP is entirely separate to our EU membership...

Pointed this out a million times before, Unbeliever does not believe it. The EU has agreed to the international protocols to meet reductions in CO2 and told nation states that they had a free hand in achieving this. The UK, unilaterally, decided to take things further and set more stringent targets for itself.

It is failing abysmally in meeting those targets but somehow that is the EU's fault. It is very poor logic. In the past the UK has also moved en bloc to maintain farming subsidies to the current level.

What has the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) got to do with CO2 emission targets?

Nothing. It's to do with this.

I also have an issue with the farming subsidies.

So, what laws is Unbeliever waiting to be repealed that are a) related to EU membership (clue, not the CAP), and b) our government has supported (clue, not the CAP and not emissions targets)...

Perhaps you want them to repeal the law about straight bananas... Oh, wait, that one was fake wasn't it. You believed it though right?
