Post Brexit Racism.

Not all Leavers are racist but all racists are Leavers?

The problem is that it was not only racist views that were silenced but also the views of people with legitimate concerns about uncontrolled mass immigration.

People were made to feel ashamed for feeling as they did about uncontrolled mass immigration... despite polls indicating the vast majority of people had the same concerns. Support for UKIP, who promised to do something about uncontrolled immigration whilst successive governments did nothing, did not reflect public concern because the shaming tactic initially worked. But as time passed, and the problems persisted and worsened, so too did frustration with the political class not doing anything. More and more people started to 'protest' vote for UKIP... but still nothing happened. UKIP then won the EU elections... still nothing. UKIP came third in the GE with 4m votes... and all that happen was the liberal-left mocked UKIP only getting one MP.

And so the frustration and anger has bubbled away and now we are here. Levels of frustration and anger are so high that we have voted to reject the EU, and its' free movement of people diktat, entirely despite outrageous scaremongering that included every family being over £4k a year worse off.

The country is 'on the edge' not because we have voted to leave but because the will of the people on the issue of immigration has been ignored for far too long. Those who votes to leave are not responsible. It is those who did the ignoring or encouraged the ignoring.

You realise that any claims the leave camp made about controlling immigration have now been withdrawn. Along with all the other lies they peddled to trick people into voting for them.

Inside the EU we are obliged to adhere to it's free movement of people diktat and outside we are not. If the government were to agree to any EU deal that retained the free movement of people then they would not remain in government for long... free movement of people has been firmly rejected by the people of this country.

Was it? I was asked if I want to leave the EU?

You voted to stay didn't you? Perhaps you should try asking/listening to people who voted to leave if you want to understand the primary motivations and the messages we can take from this?

I don't think tfh should ask that, it should be the politicians. Nobody knows exactly why 52% voted to leave and nobody, the anti-migration wing, the money for the NHS wing, the sovereignty wing, can claim supremacy over the other unless there are exact figures available on this. And even then it becomes increasingly complicated because some will have a number of reasons to vote Leave and they can all be different as well. And then of course there are those that voted to stay who might have had concerns...

Tricky job this being a politician, especially once you start pandering to specific demands and requests.

Quick thanks to the mods for keeping things as civil as possible.

And to the kind people on both Leave and Remain for standing up against racism and xenophobia. There's a lot of good people out there. Let's look out for one another.

So now you're going to deny reality?

You're in for a rude awakening, methinks.

Well in interviewing leave voters on the streets the media have been able to find plenty of "I'm not racist, but..." people. But all we actually know for certain about leave is that they voted for us to leave the EU.

They could force people to leave the UK, that would bring the net migration figures down ;)
