retep
Mandy did'nt know her father played darts. Obviously a man of hidden talents, wonder if he won one of the sugar bowl trophy's.

Luke_F
Hi, I've just been set the brief for my latest Architecture Assignment at Uni and the site is Vale Road - just below the carpark to the Ski Village, Parkwood Springs. I'm currently doing Site investigation and i was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the history of the area? Either from personal knowledge or a point in the direction of any good resources on the area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. retep
What do you want to know, the area just below the car park was the vicarage,to St Michael and All Angels. The place where the Ski village buildings are was Douglas Terrace built around 1880. The corner where you turn into the car park was the local chippy. The housing from the chippy corner to the bottom of the car park was terraced.

Luke_F
Hi, thanks for the prompt replies. The exact area of the site the corner highlighted. Very interesting info about the chipshop, was it on that corner? There is a lot of brick rubble in the undergrowth that suggested to me the possibility of previous housing. Any other information would be brilliant.
retep
No the chip shop was at the top of Vale. The area you have ringed was terraced housing and a grocery shop on the corner. Here are the residents. ceegee
A description of the housing in the Douglas Road area is given in George Orwell's "Road to Wigan Pier" - 1936 http://www.chrishobbs.com/orwellsheffield1936.htm I should imagine Vale Road as being very similar if not identical
