Simple answer to petcharlie ...? Yes , the honours system and entire House of Lords system needs revising. Not picking on anyone in particular but what has Floella Benjamin, formerly Playschool presenter, done to justify a £300 attendance allowance per day? Nice freebie if you brown-nose to the right people...?

Wish I got £300 a day just for turning up for work!

Aye, and leaving ten minutes later having signed in.

List posted today. Just as suspected with no change.

Sorry my bad. I'd read the newspapers several days ago when it was reported that T. May said she was going to block the list. There has obviously been a change of heart since then.

. . .what has Floella Benjamin, formerly Playschool presenter, done to justify a £300 attendance allowance per day?

A damn sight more for society than you've ever done:

Benjamin's interest in education has also seen her on the "4Rs Commission" established by the Liberal Democrats to look into primary education in the UK.

Benjamin is vice-president of NCH Action for Children and Barnardo's, and was in the NSPCC's Hall of Fame. She runs the London Marathon to raise funds for Barnardo's and the Sickle Cell Society. She was a cultural ambassador for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. In September 2011, she participated in the Great North Run. She features in the BBCs CBeebies animation Mama Mirabelle's Home Movies.

In July 2007 she spoke of what she saw as the low standard of children's television and in March 2013, she used a speech marking International Women's Day to warn of the impact on children of the availability of violent pornographic material online, claiming this was leading to the increasing objectification of women.

She is a Patron of the charity Beating Bowel Cancer, having lost her mother to the disease in 2009.

Did you honestly think that she would block it and set a precedence for when she wants to honer HER bum wipers and ass lickers?

Back to basics. There are really two types of awards, as far as one can see.

1. People who, in their ordinary lives/jobs, do something extraordinary (brave, selfless, etc)

2. Politicians and Civil Servants who do their ordinary jobs.

It's about time that type2 awards were stopped, but surely type1 are precisely the reason for the system to exist- let those continue.

Oh, and it's not for the PM (or ex-PM) to 'award' anyone anything. That's the Monarch's role. A pity that HM would never say "No" when 'invited' to make a type2 award.
