El Cid
If so that is new because in the past there has been a specific ban on using all of the funds from sales to build more properties. They are meant to build a new house, if they sell one; but that does not apply to council houses, and its a Conservative promise, so very likely to be broken. Its certainly not happening yet. If you insist on objecting to this scheme on the basis of your politics and cynicism about Conservatives, I assume you'll follow that through by not participating in it. So will you, as a principled socialist, be refusing to participate in the right to buy scheme? I knew a guy, who lived in a council house who wouldn't apply to buy because of his principles. Respect to him, he held strong trade union views. Its interesting how so many Tory haters put those feelings aside when large discounts were on offer. apelike
You pay rent for life,a mortgage for 25 years.i am now mortgage free and own a house worth £150,000. And when will you get to use that £150,000 of money invested?
Santo
And when will you get to use that £150,000 of money invested? How much did the house cost? How much is that in today's money? What is 12 X 25 X Monthly Repayment, adjusted for inflation? There are parts of Sheffield where houses are now cheaper in real terms than only a few years ago. Allen
It's a no brainer.....buy every time. I bought a £10,000 house years ago. Over the 25 years mortgage payments I paid out approximately £30,000 for it. Lived mortgage free for a few years and then sold it for £100,000. Bought a nice little modernised house in the countryside for £60,000 and lived rent free for the last five years. I have a roof over my head, plus a nice bank balance....and property to leave to my kids. Why rent?
