Are the courts too soft?

Recommended Posts

What is needed from the court is consistency, and for the police to convict as many wrong doers as possible.

The punishment for killing some usually is jail, but not always.

You would benefit from study English legal system and then youd realise what a judge can and cannot do, as well as how the law is made.

For the police to convict as many wrongdoers as possible, then you need to give them the resources and you need to know what you will do with the people you convict.

The punishment for homicide differs because there are different crimes.

Studying homicide will help you appreciate why there are differences or would you like all homicides to be treated the same?

Every case is different, that's why sentences differ.

And the police don't convict anyone, they investigate and pass the case to the prosecution.

If you read the information in the link, our conviction rate is often poor.

Why this is I do not know.

I would like our justice system to work better. The old man that killed someone because he took a risk, and lied, that would often result in a custodial sentence.

What do you mean work better. It done exactly what its supposed to do.

Crime investigated, prosecution made, guilty verdit given, sentence passed, offender punished.

What more do you expect to happen???

The Judge has heard all the FACTS and taken all the individual CIRCUMSTANCES into account and studied the various sentencing GUIDELINES and taken the INDIVIDUAL persons record into account and weighed up the BENEFITS of putting this particular "old man" behind bars.

In this particular case they decided not to.

How many more times. Its what a qualified and trained Judge is supposed to do. Make a JUDGMENT on a case.

We get it, you dont agree. Enough already with going round in circles on here.

Someone else has given you the route to making an complaint / appeal.

Use it or dont.

Judgement =

the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions

People go to jail for monetary crime, but a much worse crime is killing someone because of their actions, in this case he told lies in order to keep driving.

Killing someone is the 'top' crime,

A judge condemned the "embarrassing inadequacy" of his sentencing powers when jailing a driver who had knocked down a woman after a ram raid on a shop. Because the man pleaded guilty he could be given only a 16-month sentence for aggravated vehicle-taking.

Probably a worse crime, but the woman did not die, obviously crimes that result in death carry a longer sentence, but not always.

Probably a worse crime? It says there he ram-raided a shop.

Are you trying to win an award for righteous indignation or something?

Killing someone isn't the charge you go to trial for. You go on trial for causing death by (insert other words here), manslaughter or murder. As I wrote before all murder is homicide, not all homicide is murder. Which of those is top? I'll give you a clue-not the one this elderly gentleman was charged with.

Why do you think people go to jail for monetary crime but not causing death by careless driving?

  • 7 months later...

Two men who crashed a hired supercar in London's Mayfair and then lied about it have been jailed for four months. Restaurant manager Alkassab and club promoter Lababidi, both of west London, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

ran away, abandoning the car at the scene, not insured, more than £100,000 of damage, ordered to pay £714.13 compensation.

How do you get a hire car without insurance?

Edit - and how is this related to the rest of the thread?

£100,000 of damage, ordered to pay £714.13 compensation too soft?

Is dangerous driving in there too?
