the_mandarin
How does one go about getting an Economy 7 electricity meter installed? Does it involve any cost? And if so, is it worth the cost if you do not have storage heaters in your home? Also, if you have Economy 7 electricity meter installed, does your provider charge you more for the "Day rate" that the rate that you would have had to pay if you had just the one standard meter? biotechpete
They charge you more for the day but less for the night compared to the standard rate tariff. It's worth it if you can put your washing machine and dishwasher etc onto a timer to operate during the night. It depends on your energy usage though. I guess with storage heaters you probably have electric immersion heater for hot water, so that's an expensive thing to put onto a night timer. Nagel
I had my Economy 7 meter removed. It wasn't worth it since I don't use much electricity at night.
geared
Are many places even offering the tariff anymore?
Fogey
Last time I looked into it (called something else) the night rate was about half the standard rate but the day rate was about 4 times the standard rate. That was 2010 with Either British Gas or Npower, not sure which.
the_mandarin
Thanks all. And yes - most suppliers still provider the tariff. But going by what's been said, it does not look like a very cost effective option.
