Traingate Smear Falls Apart

Recommended Posts

It's not the busiest time but there can still be congestion issues on the trains at that time. Seen it on plenty of occasions.

There is no doubt that Corbyn was on a very busy train that day. The staff were having to upgrade people into first class to make room in the rest of the train. Even on the Virgin footage virtually all the seats were occupied.

There was already enough ammo for Corbyn without the vestibule stunt.

I have traveled on trains at many different times day and night, over a lifetime and know when the busiest times are. It is not mid morning.

These people are supposed to be trying to get our vote.

I know, I would not vote for someone who wanted to prove that trains are overcrowded, but didn't appear to know what time of day would be best.

Did he need ammo? Are we so stupid that we can't understand the concept of a busy train without having to film someone sat on the floor.

I know a lot of trains in the country are very busy, as I have said previously commuter trains into London at peak times are horrendous. No-one is doubting that the UK has busy trains. I just don't see what was served by pulling a stupid stunt like this.

It is clear to me that Corbyn was trying to make himself seem like a man of the people, (unnecessarily) slumming it with everyone else. Unfortunately that made him look like an idiot for a) not seeming intelligent enough to book in advance, and b) not realising his lie would come out and spectacularly backfire.

What is rather unfortunate however is how much scrutiny this has bought on Corbyn as a man but not his policies. We should be taking about why it is ridiculous and unworkable to suggest that the railways should be renationalised (does he not remember how awful British Rail was?)

A meeting that was arranged presumably weeks if not months in advance. You can book up to 2 hours in advance. Failing to do that when it was apparently so important he sat next to his wife makes him seem like a fool. Perhaps it is too right wing to book a seat?

It the article you posted from the Mirror (not exactly a particularly reputable source but never mind) it says that Owen Smith supporters have also been suspended, so I don't see how that is meant to rig the vote in favour of Smith?

"And the rash of suspensions hasn't just affected Corbyn supporters.

Jonny Chambers has previously worked as an advisor to MP Stella Creasy, and supports Owen Smith . He left the party in March, in protest over Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, but had applied to rejoin following the mass resignation of Shadow Cabinet members in June.

He says the party told him they never processed his cancellation, but told him he had been expelled this morning.

He believes it's down to an article he wrote saying Theresa May would be the best Tory candidate to replace David Cameron as Prime Minister - but noting he wanted a Labour leader that could beat her."

yeah, but it could have been from any paper,it just so happened i picked that one,

I am not saying that no Owen Smith supporters have not been barred from voting, what i am saying is, in all probability there will be many many more Corbyn supporters banned than Smiths, after all, it is his side that is dong the vetting

I know it's not the busiest time which makes the fact that the train was so crowded at 11am, to the point where staff were having to shuffle passengers around to make room, quite significant. It obviously was very busy even from the Virgin trains footage.

Was it? Looked like a perfectly normal train to me. And weren't the people shuffled around and some moved to first class so that Corbyn and his team could be all sat together? I don't know but I'm not sure that would have happened otherwise.

Come on.. I knew there was a hustings in Newcastle more than 2 hours in advance. I'm pretty sure Corbyn did.

Bit in bold: it's got a lot of people discussing the state of the railways. And a nice side effect is it has highlighted the lack of integrity of a big corporation that we as tax-payers are part funding.

If you are of a left-ish persuasion it's not that bad a result really. Not bad at all.

It looked busy to me...if there were seats available in economy class, why didnt the staff escort him to an available seat, instead of offering him a first class one? or then moving people about

yeah, but we are not privy to know what his prior arrangements were, he may have had a meeting in the morning as well for all we know, or is that impossible?

I would imagine he was offered a first class seat because of his status as the leader of the opposition - it probably doesn't look good that he was sat on the floor (despite the fact we now know there were seats available).

I have stood in train vestibules many many times in my life. I have never been offered a first class seat.

The timing of the CCTV footage shows him walking past empty seats and empty reserved seats when making his journey to the vestibule, it was not the case the seats he ended up in were only made available after staff moved people around.

I suspect, although don't know for sure, that people were moved to first class so that his team could sit together as it would be easier for staff to get someone to move by offering them a free upgrade to first class as opposed to asking politely if they would mind moving to another empty economy class seat so that some Corbyn helper could sit there instead.

Why would having a meeting that morning prevent him, or one of his team, taking the 3 minutes it takes to book a train ticket online? If he can't manage that I really don't want to see what he would be like trying to run the country.
