In defence of Diane Abbott (the first and last time I'll post this) she could have picked up the wrong bit of paper, couldn't find the note on her phone or common or garden brain fart. I can't stand the woman but she's getting a bit of a needless kicking in my opinion. The final figures, the "right" ones are going to be in manefesto according to jezza. Now whether they stack up and where the money will come from is a different thing altogether.

Then that is all she needed to say. Nobody (reasonable) expects politicians to be infallible, but she really didn't help matters by refusing to admit that she didn't know the figures and merely 'misspoke'.

It is clear to anyone who listens to the interview that she did not know the figures at all. Her claims on BBC's Daily Politics that she did know her figures because she had 6 earlier interviews that morning also doesn't stand up to much scrutiny as Jo Coburn pointed out she didn't mention the figures at all in those interviews - only that they would be in the Labour manifesto.

She really should have just admitted that she didn't know them.

It's quite difficult to defend the undefendable. She is in a job way way over her pay grade. Doubtful if Tesco would give her a job on one of its tills.

Angel.

i would think that a figure of around £400 million would be more reasonable.

This is based on a ball park figure of £40,000 for each policeman or woman. So 10,000 police would amount to about the figure above.

The £40,000 would include administrative and equipment costs of various kinds, as well as the salaries.

I really didnt feel like it this morning, full of cold and up early for work but that made me laugh this morning.Just as bad was Yasmin Qureshi going on radio 5 to try and explain the mix up and then she got herself in a twist with the interviewer has she appeared to not know the correct figures either and got her arithmetic wrong. You couldnt make it up,and they expect us to put our faith in them to be able to run the country.:help:
