This country is doing quite well by most standards. There are bumps and there are many things which could be better but "destroyed" is ridiculous.

It is socialism which destroys nations. History is replete with examples.

Socialism is doing great in Venezuela at the moment.

You seem to be rather tetchy. It was a light hearted comment which you seem to have taken a strange offence to.

Like I said, you're welcome to your opinion. I wholeheartedly disagree.

Not tetchy at all but I do have an aversion to trolls

Thanks for your concern re my emotional state though.

Why did you not just simply write your ageement?

Because, as I sure you would agree, I can do what I like. :)

If I come back tomorrow and this thread has been closed I'm blaming you 2.

Selling nationalised industry and infrastructure was a bad move.

We're not doing too bad on a global stage I agree but we don't have the feel good factor at all.

There is no quick fix.

Lining fat cats pockets isn't the answer though.

A system which rewards achievement is the only way to make it work. Often this means people who are not nice, but have achieved a lot (often in ways that don't seem terribly enriching), end up rich.

It would be nice if the system rewarded effort directly, or was more rewarding of kindness. There are any number of ways things could be nicer and fairer, but this works.

Any system which decouples reward from effort is catastrophically doomed.

The worst thing you can do for the masses is institute a societal system which doesn't work properly. People will either starve or end up killing each other fighting over the ruins.

I'm not kidding. I wish that we could apply a grand design to the world and make it fair, but we can't. It doesn't work. Many, many people will die if we try. A lot more than end up dying under the current arrangements.

I totally agree:)

Maybe a citizen points scheme would work?

But, ultimately, this would be open to abuse and lead to elitism.

what like the pensioners?

How on earth did you arrive at that?

An awful lot of the privatised utilities and other former state assets are substantially in the hands of pension funds. Pension funds tend to be split between commodities, the safer stocks and government bonds to get a decent return whilst not really gaming with the bulk of the money. That's how it works.
