wow, who would expect this?

Labour celebrates hat-trick of by-election victories

That should put a smile on Corbyns face just before he wipes the floor with Smiffy, oh happy days

Wow. Opposition holds safe seats. Stop the press.

Any comment on the previously safe seats they've been losing elsewhere to the Lib Dems?

One expects to get a rough ride from the voters in government. It's almost unheard of in opposition.

Yes. He'd actually just screwed up his accounts temporarily. He still got the £130k.

It was a massive exercise in spin.

Anna: Do not believe Cornbyn's own press. Would you have accepted this £8.95 unquestioningly if it has come from a Conservative, or a moderate Labour MP?

Sometimes you do not know who to believe ;)

Did you see the 2016 local election results. The Labour party actually experienced a net loss of 11 seats. Oppositions usually gains hundreds. Cameron did in opposition. Blair gained well over 1000 in opposition.

Strong public sector spending restraint from a government divided over the vexed issue of EU membership and Corbyn managed to lose your guys seats at the local elections. How? Another leader could not have done it on purpose.

i see Labour lost 11

Tories lost 49

i wouldnt consider that not bad considering the continuous media bias against him, and of course his disloyal MP's running to the press to spread their hate...

Those "disloyal MPs" as you refer to them are your democratically elected representatives in parliament. The real coup comes from the hundreds of thousands of new members dragging the established members to a policy agenda and leader who they don't want.

The press conspiracy story is the same standard fare trotted out UKIP and it never stopped them. There's a difference between "hate" and genuine heartfelt disagreement. Besides, it's not like it's going to magically vanish in time for the 2020 election. Corbyn has to win in the real world.

In opposition you have to put yourself forward to the electorate as a legitimate government in waiting and convince the people that you can do a better job of running the country than the current lot. The local council elections make it abundantly clear that current Labour party are not doing that. There's no way around that.

With a moderate leader right now, Labour would be defeating the Conservatives in elections which the Conservatives won last time around. Every Labour councillor who is elected strengthens the voice of your party in our democratic system and pushes government policy closer to that of Labour.

You know me from this forum well enough to know that I want the Conservatives to win elections. I don't want a moderate Labour government, I want a Conservative government. Okay so I don't want a radical Labour government either but there's naff all chance of that happening as 10 seconds looking at the polls and the 2016 local government elections will tell you.

Despite all this I don't want the century old Labour party which has done so much for the people of this country to be wiped out or torn apart and leave all the UK socialists (moderate or otherwise) disenfranchised democratically for a generation. I want you to lose, but I don't want you destroyed. I'm trying to save you from yourselves.

HONESTLY!.

We are never going to agree on this...we have been round this bush many many times...lets just wait and see where we all stand when the dust settles...

It'll be too late to save your party by then. It probably is already, hence the thread title. You'll have a wait for somebody like the Lib Dems to grow to fill the void before you feel like you're meaningfully represented in parliament again. That'll take time.

I did my best. I've explained it at great length to you, Anna and even the dancing banana guy who keeps running to the moderators and getting my account suspended.

If you're determined to destroy yourselves, you're all grown-ups and I can't stop you.

I've done all I can. My conscience is clear.

If you believe in Corbyn so strongly, he is 5/1 to be the next Prime Minister. Good odds in a two party system?

You could gamble a couple of thousand and earn a few extra pennies.
