WalkleyIan
Looks like the law is finally coming to terms with the stupidly lenient sentences they hand out to dangerous drivers. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/drive-for-justice-campaign-life-sentences-plan-for-killer-motorists-1-8272307
shand1
I can cope with one or two cyclists riding sensibly & i give them room, but what really gets me is when there are cyclists in groups all wearing their pervy lycra suits who persist in blocking the road just because they can ! RootsBooster
The worst offenders when the topic is "motorists endangering cyclists" are cyclists? How do cyclists endanger cyclists (ignoring that they aren't motorists)... I see them break the rules, but they rarely appear to endanger anyone. There's a young woman who routinely used the pavement to skip lights, but she's not actually creating danger. I can't see how they'd be the worst offenders (unless his route involves lots of cyclists and little or no car traffic) but they certainly can and do endanger other cyclists. There's plenty of vids on YouTube.
WalkleyIan
It seems that SYP have told the Star that a "close pass" scheme will start in Sheffield next week. The Star is asking for cyclists to let them know which city routes the police cyclists should patrol for dangerous overtakes. Presumably for an article in next weeks Star. Do they give contact details for how to recommend particular roads? I'd suggest the length of Infirmary Road and Langsett Road.
WalkleyIan
Call Matt Mclennan at the Star with ideas. He's the one writing the story up .
Eater Sundae
Oooh, good. Do they give contact details for how to recommend particular roads? I'd suggest the length of Infirmary Road and Langsett Road. I'd suggest Bramall Lane and parts of Clarkehouse Road. Both made worse, IMO, by unsuitable cycle lanes. The last consultations regarding "close pass" appeared to have SYP saying it would not be safe for their police cyclists to implement.
Cyclone
Ironic, given that all they have to do is cycle about whilst not showing POLICE on their backs, then radio ahead to a patrol car.
therascal
How many times a day do you see cyclists riding dangerously and breaking the law? And how many times a day do you see motorists driving dangerously and breaking the law? You need to spend a month driving around Sheffield for 10 hours a day, your opinion might be different after that. A lot of idiots on cycles on Sheffield roads, but to read some replies about cyclist how they can do no wrong you would think a rainbow shone out of their backsides.
