Cyclone
I think it's a confusing sentence that makes reference to the locking mechanism twice, I could be wrong of course, but that's my opinion.
RootsBooster
This thread got me thinking about I knife I used to have years ago (think I got it from Mortons Cutlers). It was like a butterfly knife but with backsprung slip hinges so it was stiff to open and legally classed as a folding knife at the time. I've heard the style referred to as a "jeans knife". Ignoring the fact that the blade was longer than 3 inches, I'm wondering what it would be classed as under current law. I did see them still for sale in the Lake District a few years back so I'm guess they're still legal but looking at the very brief description of a butterfly knife - "butterfly knives (also known as ‘balisongs’) - a blade hidden inside a handle that splits in the middle" A jeans knife could count as one. Not only that, a leatherman could!
Cyclone
Good point, and they're not just illegal to carry in public, but illegal full stop.
