City hall,fifties and sixties

Recommended Posts

As a teenager with a growing interest not just in rock and blues, but also jazz, I saw a lot of famous names at the City Hall in the late fifties/early sixties. Among them were Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Rushing, Muddy Waters, Modern Jazz Quartet, Rosetta Tharpe and many others. Is there somewhere someone with a record of who performed there and when? I'd really, like to know exactly what line-ups I saw (particularly for the Jimmy Rushing concert) and when.

Search the forum there are a few threads on that subject and some concert listings of performing artists from that era. I can't remember exactly where they are, but they are there. Someone will be on soon to give you a link, I can't do that.

My music likes are very diverse. I also was very 'into' jazz in the 60's. I saw numerous bands at the City hall, also Nether Edge jazz club (remember that?!)The bands that spring to mind are kenny Ball, Acker Bilk, Chris Barber, Humphrey Lyttolton, Dave Brubeck, others i know but can't think of, it's too early.!
