Swarms of midges (mosquitoes?) on the window!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Never seen this one before: our kitchen window is being inundated by a swarm of tiny flying insects in a rather ... ahem... Hitchcock-ish manner ?

They look like mosquitoes but might be midges. Got all windows closed... Dont want the little buggers coming in. Is this common this time of the year?

On the plus side, Bitsy the spider who has permanent tenancy outside the kitchen window is having a blast ?

Ladies and gentlemen … coming to a cinema near you soon!

Tippi Hadron collides with Rod Trailer in the latest Daphnia Du Maurier psycho shocker, high budget blockbuster directed by Albert Spatchcock … 'The Midges'!

Can't see it really …

It's very unlikely that they're de Havilland mosquitoes...

... unless you happen to have left the landing lights on?

(ouch! sorry for that folks!)

I didn't know Olivia de Havilland was an entomologist specialising in nematocerid flies, as well as an actress! :o

Anyway, she went with the wind didn't she, not the birds.

Not sure about midges but used to get swarms of tiny black flies on the windows at a certain time of year. Had to make sure all the windows were tightly shut as at one point loads got in the house and settled on the fridge freezer. Some even found their way INSIDE my computer monitor! You could see them scuttling around on the screen behind the top cover before they eventually died and left me with a few black smudges on the display. :(

Solved the problem by chopping the ivy down that was growing up the walls.
