Chazndave
Hi, I am skint and fridge freezer is making a really loud noise. Like the motor is loud. The freezer which has never ever done this before has gone a bit snowy. Im frightened it will stop. I cant afford to loose the food in the freezer. What can I do? Thanks
tzijlstra
Could be the compressor working overtime due to a small air leak in the rubbers, check whether all the rubbers (between door and unit) are still sealed.
Crosser
In particular, make sure that any "snow" build up is NOT stopping the door from closing fully, if it is then carefully chip it away so the door does close properly, then use the food asap, and do a full DEFROST as soon as possible. hopefully that will cure the problem. Even "Frost Free" freezers need defrosting at least every 12-18 months.
Bob Arctor
This might be a long shot but if it's knackered and you need a new one, are you in touch with any of the people listed here who could make an application for you? http://www.glasspool.org.uk/grants/who-can-apply They do white goods. Or there's this https://sheffieldmoney.co.uk/household-appliances
Chazndave
When you press on that big back panel the noise it makes its awful!! Like an intense motor/drilling sound thats soooo loud! Is there ice behind the panel thats pressing on a motor or something? carosio
On frost-free models there is usually a fan behind that panel and if there's an ice build up then it's probably hitting the fan blades, so unplug and remove panel. If the frost/de-frost components fail then it can contribute to ice build-up.

Eat the food and don't restock then switch off for 24 hours & leave door/s open, Plug back in... see what happens before re-stocking. If same symptoms occur then either replace, or repair. carosio
So shall I unscrew the panel and then leaave it to defrost or scrap it off the fans? It will de-frost quicker with the panel off, but don't damage anything if the ice is stuck fast. Trouble is if you leave it overnight you will have to arrange some water-collection device or towels, depends how much ice there is behind the panel. A gentle blow from a hairdryer can help.
