Beggars, homeless, street drinkers & drug users in Sheffield!

Recommended Posts

its a consequence of people giving them money and, them "Beggars" choosing a drug fuelled life style.

For the last several decades there have always been drug dependent people and there has always been people giving them money.

So why has there been an explosion of this in the last fee years? And why is it so much more visible now?

Is it because it is now somehow more acceptable?

Is it because of more drug dependents suddenly twigging on that masquerading as homeless is a good income?

Or is it because austerity has eroded the services that would otherwise have kept these people off the streets?

I honestly don't know.

If that's true then why has the problem increased massively since austerity started?

If you are to blame austerity ask yourself this. The people you see begging in the city centre who are often later high as a kite on spice or drunk were they in work in a home before austerity? I would say not. The people you see on the streets today have been begging for quite some time. The only reason its exploded is due to the rise of spice.

We can often blame austerity and other factors on why people chose this lifestyle instead of actually saying its individuals responsibility why is it always lets blame others for a persons downfall.

False premise. Austerity thrusts people into poverty due to welfare cuts. People get addicted to substances living on the streets too.

Was told there was only approx 14 genuine homeless people in the Sheffield area. Most choose to sleep out as the alternative is worse than choosing to sleep out in all weathers.

Most people asking for money on the routes in and around the bus station/sheffield station are people who have come in from other areas.

Massively complicated issue that there isnt a single fix to.

But many on the streets were thrust on the streets because of austerity? I would say a lot of those begging have been begging under the Blair/Brown government before austerity kicked in. They have just been round the system refusing help.

Everyone who lived on Anthony Cunninghams tent city got offered accommodation yet many chose not to accept it and live on the streets.

There is a fix for everyone to refuse to give them money. This will stop them getting money to pay for drugs and booze.
