Extreme Rambler
It was rough in the late 80's early 90's when it was the Hornblower because it was well known it was a BBC pub like the Saddle.

Strange times the 80's if the fighting wasn't up on West Street the fighting was on London road and it wasn't unusual to find those who drank on London Rd drinking on West street when the trouble was kicking off on London Rd. Happy Daze in't Hermitage suppin proper beer.

When I worked in the Bank, I used to nip in for a swift half of Sam Smiths Tadcaster ales. Proper beer.

'The Hermitage' is now 'The Clubhouse' & if memory serves me right, Barclays Bank was across the other side of London Rd & is mainly the 'Chinese Firework' shop on the ground floor with one of those 'escape room' companies on the upper floor? https://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s21463&pos=2&action=zoom Note it says 'Wards' on the pub sign. And for those not in Sheffield? The Clubhouse. https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fsheffield.camra.org.uk%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2018%2F04%2Fclubhouse-now.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fsheffield.camra.org.uk%2F2018%2F04%2Fcider-pub-of-the-year-2018%2F&tbnid=37iFT_q5a33KMM&vet=1&docid=Trltowyku66VEM&w=2438&h=1613&itg=1&hl=en-GB&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim Edited October 16, 2020 by Baron99

Although I did sample Sam Smiths in a pub in Tadcaster, just over the road from the brewery. That, too, was very good.
heavenmbmaa
My Nan; worked at The Raven in Sheffield in the 60’s when Lawrence (Lol) was the landlord. My Dad says he was landlord for a good while. My Nan was called Mary Wood, Does anyone remember my Nan. Apparently my Mum’s Dad is Italian and I’m thinking my Nan met him at The Raven. I have no idea who he may have been. Any ideas at all? Any help would be so much appreciated. My personal email is heavenmbmaa@hotmail.com
