One stop flights

Recommended Posts

When you go on a flight and you have to change planes as it is not a direct flight, do the airlines automatically transfer luggage between the flights, or do you have to collect it and check it in for the second flight?

It depends. Which is not all that helpful I know.

if you book your flights as 2 separate flights you will have to collect your luggage and check in for the second flight. If the trip is booked in one, you shouldn't have to. Easiest way to check is when you check in for the first flight as the person on the check in desk.

If it's all the same airline AND all the same booking, it should be checked through to your final destination.

EXCEPTION: In the US, you always have to collect your luggage at the first place you land, even if it is not your final destination. (Europe doesn't make you do this, not sure about every other country.)

Usually yes if flights are on the same ticket even with 2 different airlines involved, luggage will be sent to final destination.

Flying to the united states is different, luggage has to be collected at first point of entry then re-checked even if all flights are same ticket. Example, flying london - los angeles - hawaii, you would collect luggage in LA and have to re-checked them as you clear immigration and customs in LA. On the return luggage would be sent all the way to london.

It is Greece to Manchester I mailed Aegean but they just sent a mail with links to lost baggage and other baggage info but nothing on whether they transfer it. It is booked as one flight so would imagine it is them but there is only about 50 minutes between flights which is cutting it close.
